The theatre programs at SCC provide a robust foundation in acting, musical theatre,
and production. SCC prepares students for four-year degree programs in the dramatic
arts and exciting, creative careers.
Students will study wide-ranging dramatic works, from ancient Greek plays to the latest
Broadway shows and independent films. You’ll be able to take courses in writing, acting,
dance, directing, and stagecraft. SCC’s Center Stage Theatre will become your second
home, where you can participate in productions year-round. Your experiences in class
and on the stage will hone your craft and build new skills—perhaps ones you never
thought you could learn.

SCC’s theatre programs teach students the fundamentals of performance and production.
Those in the A.F.A. program will get a deep dive in the performance side of the stage,
taking advanced courses in acting and dance. You’ll be able to select a practicum
in the area that interests you the most: theatre design, stage management, directing,
stagecraft, acting, musical theatre, and dance.
You’ll gain hands-on experience working on productions right here at SCC’s Center
Stage Theatre, learning to successfully perform in dramatic, comedic, and musical
works.
SCC's programs are designed to give you the confidence to take your passion for the
performing arts to the next level, whether that’s in a career within the theatre industry
or one that applies your talents and skills to another field.
Students will:
- Understand the elements of theatrical performance and stage production, from acting
to costumes and stagecraft.
- Broaden their understanding of dramatic theory and history, able to discuss past and
present works from diverse approaches and cultures using formal vocabulary.
- Build their knowledge of the business side of the theatre industry, from the basics
of non-profit management to best practices in marketing, budgeting, and development.
- Develop advanced skills in oral/physical communication, performance, public speaking,
and improvisation.
- Polish audition techniques and strategies.
