The billing and record-keeping office is the engine of any healthcare practice. Medical
billing and coding specialists ensure that medical procedures are accurately accounted
for and billed appropriately. These detail-oriented positions in hospitals, physicians'
offices, and healthcare clinics help protect patients from being overcharged and practices
from being underpaid.
This program will prepare you to take a national exam to become a certified coding
associate, which qualifies you for entry-level employment in different types of medical
billing and coding positions. You might choose a position that allows you to work
exclusively on a computer — even remotely from home — or you might prefer one that’s
more people-facing, like a medical secretary or office administrator. If you wish
to advance even further in this field, you could pursue an associate or bachelor’s
degree in healthcare information management (HIM).
If you’re interested in training for a new career in healthcare that’s in high demand
that will put you in the workforce fast, SCC’s Medical Billing & Coding program may
be right for you.

SCC’s Medical Billing & Coding program can be completed in just 35 credit hours. You’ll
be prepared to take the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam from the American Health
Information Management Association (AHIMA) credential, a nationally-accepted standard
of achievement. This credential certifies you for entry-level coding competencies.
You can then have two distinct options available to you. You can go on to apply for
entry-level positions in the health care industry. Or you can build on a degree you’ve
already earned, adding the certificate as proof of specialization.
