SCC's welding courses provide the theory, fundamentals, and the training students
need to perform shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored
arc welding (FCAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). Students will also learn
about equipment maintenance, thermal cutting processes, fabrication processes, safety
and health in the workplace, and welding inspection to prepare them for entry-level
employment as a welder.
SCC follows the guidelines of the American Welding Society SENSE program, an industry-recognized
standard for welding education. SCC students will have the opportunity to earn AWS
welding certifications, and employers and students can track these certifications
on the AWS website.
According to the BLS, 42,600 openings for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers
are projected each year, on average, over the next decade.
Along with an associate degree in welding, we also offer certificates of specialization
and certificates of achievement in welding. Students can choose to become an AWS entry-level
welder or an AWS advanced-level welder. All programs instill students with the knowledge
needed to enter the workforce as a welder and offer the opportunitiy to test for AWS
welding certificates.
Please contact Roxanne Finneran, the welding instructional coordinator, to set up
