St. Charles Community College’s six-week, non-credit Commercial Driving School is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills to earn their Commercial Drivers License. Students are trained on manual transmission vehicles with the latest materials and state-of-the-art simulators. Small class sizes and highly experienced instructors ensure you’ll get the attention you need to succeed.

Training for your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at SCC rather than with a commercial carrier means you won’t be bound to a single employer, allowing you to find the best jobs available. Working as a truck driver means you won’t be tied down to a 9 to 5 schedule, giving you a level of independence you won’t find in other occupations and allows you a great way to see the country. Whether you want to drive for a national carrier, pursue a management position, or own and operate your own trucking business, SCC is a great place to start your new career.

Program Details

The program consists of six weeks of theory, lab, and hands on training. We also offer Hazardous material training at an additional cost of $350 during the seventh week.

This tuition includes CDL 100 - Commercial Driving License Class A Training.  

UNIT 1: Entry Level Driver Training

1. Students must have a valid Missouri driver’s license.
Applicants with a distressed driving record that include multiple moving violations, DUI, or have felony convictions within the last five years are encouraged to counsel with the program director. Students with these types of offenses may incur difficulty gaining employment as a commercial driver. Your confidentiality will be valued.

  • Students age 18 and above will gain the necessary skills to test with a Missouri Highway Patrol licensed examiner.
  • Students under the age of 21 will be restricted to operate within their state domicile.

2. The ability to communicate in English proficiently is recommended to assist in the successful completion of the program and to operate a commercial vehicle safely.

3. Applicants must hold or obtain a current Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) medical certificate. Students will be required to complete a D.O.T. regulated drug screen. During class students will register with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.

4. By enrolling, students agree to abide by all published rules of behavior listed in the St. Charles Community College Student Handbook, available at www.stchas.edu.

5. Fast Track state funding may be available for qualified students.
