If you love the natural world, have an inquisitive nature, like hands-on learning,
and are looking for a challenge, then a degree in biology is for you!
Biology, the study of life, is a relevant field with many sub-disciplines. An Associate
of Science (A.S.) degree in Biology at SCC is an excellent choice to prepare for a
career in the biological sciences. This degree is designed for students planning to
major in general biology, pre-health professions (pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinary
medicine, pre-physician assistant) or any related biological disciplines. The coursework
at SCC provides the knowledge and skills necessary for transfer to a biology program
at a four-year college or university, as it mimics the courses taken during the first
two years of a bachelor’s degree program. This allows for seamless transfer so students
can start at their institution of choice as close to the junior year as possible.
At SCC, students can expect to have a personalized, high-quality experience with small
class sizes, hands-on learning, real-world skills and one-on-one interactions with
their professors.
The A.S. degree in Biology consists of 62-64 credit hours where foundation science
courses are taken along with some of the general education requirements. Transferability
of courses is dependent on the transfer institution, so students should work with
an advisor at their transfer institution as soon as possible to verify they are enrolled
in the correct courses.
