Program Information

Students may pursue either a chemistry or biochemistry area of study in this associate of science degree program. Coursework for the A.S. program is the equivalent of the first four semesters of a B.A. or B.S. program in chemistry or biochemistry. This degree includes one year of organic chemistry lecture and lab, and one semester of analytical chemistry lecture and lab, in addition to one year of general chemistry lecture and lab. All students will gain hands-on experience with the instrumentation, methodologies and techniques used in research and industry, including gas chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), UV and visible spectrophotometry, atomic absorbance spectrophotometry, and infrared (IR) spectrophotometry. All science courses promote general education and science literacy, including a working knowledge of the scientific method and an understanding of historic and contemporary scientific theory within the context of global awareness.
