Like many local students, Mike Fanger graduated from high school and went to the University of Missouri. Since he didn’t know what he wanted to do after college, he majored in general business.

“I just picked a major,” Mike said. “I wasn’t really passionate about it. I was just going through the motions.”

After graduation, he took a job working at an accounting firm but soon realized he wanted something different in a career.

Mike returned to college set on earning another degree. “This time, I decided to test the waters without making a huge money commitment,” he said. “SCC was the best option.”  He chose to pursue an Associate of Science degree in pre-engineering at SCC.

“SCC is a great decision for students economically,” Mike said. “You can go to school and work at the same time. Plus, the class sizes are small, and it’s a close knit environment.”

After SCC, Mike transferred to Missouri University of Science and Technology where he earned another bachelor’s degree in December 2015. He currently lives in Chicago and is employed full-time as a software engineer.
