As a returning learner and single parent, Hannah Ngugi sought out a school that would work with her lifestyle and had smaller, less intimidating class sizes. St. Charles Community College fit the bill.

Hannah quickly became involved on campus, joining SCC’s Honors Program and Phi Theta Kappa. She selected her major, psychology, and says that she has had a very rewarding and memorable experience at SCC, largely because of the great professors that care about students and their success.

“I chose to study psychology because of personal experiences I have faced as a single mother,” Hannah said. “I want to be able to help other women feel successful and fulfilled. I want to help people build positive relationships.”

Her dream career is to work with pregnant, single or young mothers and their children to help them become successful and live independent, happy lives.

Hannah, who is graduating this May with an Associate of Arts degree, plans on transferring in the fall and obtaining a bachelor’s degree. Her goal is to eventually earn a Ph.D.

“SCC has helped me immensely. Because of SCC, I am prepared for the next phase in my educational journey and have regained the confidence and skills necessary to be a successful college student.”
