Deciding which college to attend can be a daunting task for high school graduates. Lyndee Rodamaker said she felt rushed into picking a college and made the wrong choice the first go-around.

“I went to a four-year university that was a couple of hours away from home,” said Lyndee. “It was not the right fit for me. I used to look forward to coming home on weekends and dread going back to school.”

After a year, Lyndee decided to move home and transfer to SCC. “I should have started at SCC to begin with,” she said. “I chose the four-year university, because I wanted to play soccer for them. I never really thought about academics, cost or the possibility of playing soccer at SCC.”

After transferring to SCC, she contacted the soccer coach and joined the team. “Some of my best memories at SCC come from the soccer team,” Lyndee said. “I loved traveling and building friendships with my teammates.”

Off the field, Lyndee has aspirations of becoming a lawyer and feels confident that the education she has received at SCC will help her get there. “I’ve wanted to be a lawyer since high school, and the teachers at SCC supported me in thinking that is an obtainable goal.”

“People tend to have a stigma about community colleges that is not true at all,” she said. “I actually went to a four-year university first, and I can tell you that SCC is just as challenging, if not more.” 

“I’ve found that with SCC it is possible to go to a school that is both close to home and affordable without compromising your education,” she said. 

After SCC, Lyndee transferred to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where she graduated cum laude and with a Pierre Laclede Honors College certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science.

She works as a legal assistant for Cunningham, Vogel & Rost, P.C., and plans to start law school at St. Louis University School of Law in fall 2016.
