SCC graduate and registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital West, Annette Baker said SCC gave her the encouragement she needed to pursue a career in nursing.

“SCC made me confident in myself,” said Annette. “I noticed that I was successful in my classes, and with each class I took, my confidence grew more and more.”

With her newfound confidence, Annette is now pursing a bachelor’s degree at University of Missouri-St. Louis. Her ultimate goal is to get her master’s degree and become either a nurse practitioner or nursing professor.

Annette discovered her passion for nursing while attending SCC. “I have always liked helping others and the nursing program at SCC sounded really interesting,” she said.

“I am so glad I chose nursing,” said Annette. “I get to meet a lot of different patients each day at work, and every day is new and exciting.”

Annette started at SCC because it was convenient but ended up staying because of the great instruction she received. “The professors really care about making sure students are successful,” she said. “They are very supportive.”

“I was grateful that the professors had an open door policy,” said Annette. “They were happy to help students get through anything.”
