Published: 03/27/2017

Spandex season is fast-approaching, because “That ‘80s Run” and its coordinating wellness expo – Exporama – will be back in town Saturday, April 29. The 25th annual event is set on the St. Charles Community College campus, Great River Greenway trails and the streets of Cottleville.

Once again featured at the annual run event will be the popular 10K Race (6.2 miles), 5K Race (3.1 miles) and Radical Mile. The 5K/10K will start at 7:30 a.m. in front of the SCC Student Center in the Green Parking Lot and finish in the same location. The 5K and 10K routes will be chip timed by Fleet Feet. The routes will wind through the college campus and then take runners on the roads and paved trails in Cottleville. The first 1,000 5K/10K finishers will receive an ‘80s-themed finishers medal.

The Radical Mile will start at 9:15 a.m. near the Blue parking lot on campus and will finish in the same location. Each event will feature age group awards.

“We saw a record number of runners last year who came out to enjoy our really rad ‘80s-themed run.” said Heather McDorman, vice president for enrollment and marketing services and race director. “We look forward to having those runners back and welcoming new participants to our campus.”

The overall male and female winner of the 5K will each take home a $50 cash prize and overall male and female winners in the 10K will receive $100. Around 30 people will be named winners for best ‘80s costumes, and all race participants will be automatically entered to win radical prize baskets.

Entrants in the 5K and 10K races (ages 18 and older) will automatically be entered for a chance to win the $1,000 Brenda Hollrah Memorial Scholarship to SCC, and the first 500 registrants in any race event will find a neon wrist-band in their race packets.

Participants are encouraged to dress in ‘80s clothes or as their favorite ‘80s pop icon. Music from the era will be played by Precision Health Group and other ‘80s fun includes a photo booth, custom throwback finisher medals, dry-tec T-shirts (guaranteed for registrations received by April 8) and special surprise awards. “This will undoubtedly be one of the most tubular events on campus to date,” McDorman said.

Packet pickup occurs 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday-Friday, April 27-28, at Fleet Feet - St. Charles, 3813 Mexico Rd., St. Charles, Mo. 63303. Packet pickup will be held at SCC on race day.

The entry fee for the Radical Mile is $20, late registration (April 1-21) is $25 and race-week registration (April 22-29, including day-of) is $30. Entry for the 10K and 5K is $30, late registration (April 1-21) is $35 and race-week registration (April 22-29, including day-of) is $40. The entry fee includes a dry-tec T-shirt (guaranteed for registrations received by April 8), refreshments and tickets into the prize basket drawings. Participants may register online, by mail or in person for one of the run events. Online registration is available through the event website, that80srun.org.

There will be refreshments courtesy of local food stores and restaurants. Missouri American Water Company will provide water stations for the runners.

Exporama is free and open to the public from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Student Center, including entry to around 40 exhibits and leisure, health and wellness information, screenings, products samples and refreshments.
