Lauren Cole knew St. Charles Community College was the right fit for her after touring the campus.

“I fell in love with the school,” she said. “I loved how the campus was small as well as the class sizes. I also fell in love with the abundant opportunities SCC has to offer.”

She took advantage of those opportunities. Lauren recently represented the college at the Women and Gender Studies Conference at Oakton Community College in Chicago. She also was involved with the Theatre Department and was named the SCC Center Stage Theatre Actor of the Year for 2016-17 for her work on stage in Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike, A Doll’s House and The Adventures of Alice and Wonderland.

“SCC is a great stepping stone for the rest of your life. It is all you make it. If you want to be involved, get involved,” she said. “There are endless amounts of possibilities for you.”

Unsure of what she wanted to study at first, Lauren started with her general education courses at SCC. From there, she narrowed it down. “I learned my strong suit is communication, so a major in communication studies was perfect for me. The professors and staff really do care about you. Everyone wants to see you succeed and do well.”

After SCC, Lauren transferred to Southeast Missouri State and to study corporate communications with a minor in management and acting. She is currently a junior.

“SCC gave me the confidence I needed to move on to a university,” Lauren said. “It was a great place for me to learn how to be a student at the college level."
