SCC held its 36th annual commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, at the St. Charles Family Arena. Of the more than 900 students eligible to graduate, more than 300 students participated in the ceremony. The speaker was John Clark, President and CEO of Masterclock, Inc.
“I congratulate all of you on successfully completing your coursework and earning real credentials to propel you through your life experiences,” said Clark. “Enjoy this celebration of your accomplishments tonight and know you’re well-prepared to go live the life you’ve imagined.”
Also addressing graduates, faculty, relatives and friends, was student representative Donna Mae Mactal. Mactal earned an associate’s degree in nursing. During her time at SCC, Mactal was a consistent deans lister awardee and the VP of Scholarship for Phi Theta Kappa. Mactal plans to get her Bachelors of Science in Nursing while working as a critical care nurse.
“Our achievements and journey do not end here. This is just the beginning for us,” said Mactal. “Now, we are on our way to our next race; to see our next destination. Words cannot describe how proud I am of us for being here on this day. I am very excited to see what the future has for us.”
Presiding over the commencement ceremony was Barbara R. Kavalier, Ph.D., SCC president. Amy Koehler, Ed.D., Vice President for Academic Affairs, assisted with the conferring of degrees and certificates.
A Pinning ceremony was also held May 14 for Nursing students. The pinning is a symbolic welcoming into the nursing profession.
