SCC held its 35th annual commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 13, at the St. Charles Family Arena. Of the more than 900 students eligible to graduate, nearly 300 students participated in the ceremony. The speaker was Randy Schilling, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of MuniBit, and Founder/Owner of OPO Startups.

“As you embark on the next chapter of your lives, remember that change is an ever-present constant,” said Schilling. “The world will continue to evolve, and technology will persistently advance. Get messy and embrace this change with open arms, maintain an insatiable appetite for learning, and never lose your sense of curiosity. Congratulations to the Class of 2023! May your journey be filled with innovation, growth, and success.”

Also addressing graduates, faculty, relatives and friends, was student representative Carson Howe. Howe was President of the Student Government Association and a member of the
Multicultural Student Association. Howe plans to transfer to the University of Missouri-St. Louis to get a bachelor’s degree in political science.

“At this moment, we should all feel inspired, not just by what we’ve done as an individual, but also by what we’ve done as a community, and as a college,” said Howe. “All our trials and
tribulations have led to this moment, but we couldn’t have done it without the people we have around us.”

Presiding over the commencement ceremony was Barbara R. Kavalier, Ph.D., SCC president. Amy Koehler, Vice President for Academic Affairs, assisted with the conferring of degrees and certificates.

Pinning ceremonies were also held May 9,11, & 12 for Nursing, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Medical Assistant students. The pinning is a symbolic welcoming into the profession.
