Award finalists, student speaker and others from SCC were recognized during the Missouri Community College Association's 58th Annual Convention and Tradeshow in November.
Christine Mathews, adjunct nursing faculty member, received MCCA's Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. She was recognized for serving as a liaison with the county's public health department and as the lead contact tracer during the pandemic. She is known to help her students with personal and professional growth throughout their clinical practice. Mathews is a full-time RN.
Nicole Pinaire, Associate Professor of Biology, was a finalist for the Excellence in Teaching Award.
Don Popham, Executive Director for Information Technology, was a finalist for the Administrative Professional Leadership Award.
Carson Howe, President, Student Government Association, was one of three student speakers.
Peggy Schnardthorst, Director of Marketing and Communications, was selected to represent SCC in MCCA's Leadership Academy.
Students from SCC's Orchestra, along with Mary Sweetin, Orchestra Director, and Wendy Lea, concertmaster, performed for the MCCA Awards Reception. (Violin 1 - Raegan Huitt, Violin 2 - Anna Fildes, Viola - Cody Goeke, Cello - Ellen Hunott).
The college also was a finalist for the Innovation Award, recognized for establishing public/private partnerships to build campus housing for students and lease its Child Development Center.
