Through the new “Accelerate Program,” high school students taking dual credit/dual enrollment classes at St. Charles Community College may earn an associate degree in one year after graduating from high school. Added terms, in addition to traditional semesters, make it possible to reach the number of credit hours needed for an associate degree.
For example, a schedule may include:
High school dual credit (9-12 hours)
Summer after high school (6-9 hours)
Fall (16-18 hours)
Winter Mini (3 hours)
Spring (18 hours)
May Mini (3 hours)
Summer after first year at SCC (6-9 hours)
Total for Associate Degree: 64 hours
High school juniors or seniors may enroll in college-level classes for $50 per credit hour (less than half of the $106 in-district tuition rate) and start earning college credit. The credits earned will be recorded on an SCC transcript and may be used to fulfill degree requirements at SCC or at a transfer institution's discretion.
