SCC will continue its efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19 by instituting a hybrid approach to its fall semester, college officials said.

This hybrid approach will include options for students to enroll in face-to-face classes, remote online and traditional online classes. The majority of courses will be offered online; however, there will be a small number of courses offered on campus to meet the needs of students who learn best in person. SCC will also offer on-campus classes for courses that require hands-on learning with social distancing measures in place.

Remote online courses meet virtually on specific days and times; traditional online classes run without meeting on a specific day and time. This fall, face-to-face classes may meet on campus every class meeting or every other class meeting. As a result of projected increased risk by health experts, the College will move all classes to remote-only after Thanksgiving break.

“In keeping with local health agencies, college leadership believes this approach will allow us to continue meeting the needs of students while ensuring the health and safety of our faculty, staff and students,” said SCC President Barbara Kavalier, Ph.D. “This crisis requires us to continue to innovate as we provide a high-quality education that promotes student success.”

St. Charles Community College will emphasize social distancing on campus, the use of face masks, and will check temperatures of those on campus. Additionally, all campus facilities will have regular cleaning and disinfecting schedules. For a comprehensive review of the  SCC Reopening Plan, visit www.stchas.edu/lp/back-to-class.

Students will have access to key support functions in person beginning July 27, 2020. Comprehensive support services have been, and will continue to be, available remotely. Those who need to come to campus for a student support service must make an appointment beforehand; walk-ins are not being accepted at this time. To make an appointment, visit the college website at www.stchas.edu to get the contact information for the appropriate department.

Fall classes begin Aug. 15. To register, students should visit www.stchas.edu/advising for information or to contact an academic advisor. For students who know their academic course plan, they should register online by logging into the Student and Planning and Registration portion of the student portal. SCC will continue to monitor the impact of the virus throughout the year and will follow the guidelines provided by state and local health agencies.
