In honor of Veterans Day, St. Charles Community College will hold its Veteran Celebration from 11 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 8. The celebration will be held in the Daniel J .Conoyer Social Sciences Building auditorium on the college's campus at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in Cottleville.

The event will include keynote speaker Jackie Jackson - retired US Marine Corps Colonel, highly decorated Vietnam War fighter pilot and former Missouri State Representative. Colonel Jackson flew 668 combat missions in Vietnam, during which he was awarded four Distinguished Flying Crosses, 33 Air Medals, the Navy Commendation Medal for Heroism and Valor and the Legion of Merit for Service to His Country. After the war, Jackson began a long career at McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing as a test pilot, eventually retiring in 2004 as Chief Test Pilot. With more than 5,300 flight hours, he is the most experienced AV-8B Harrier jet pilot in the world. Jackson was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2002 for two terms and served as both Chairman of the Joint Committee on Terrorism, Bioterrorism and Homeland Security and Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

He is the subject of the book “Way Beyond the Blue: The Memoirs of Colonel Jackie Jackson,” which will be available for purchase at the event.
