St. Charles Community College Women's Soccer welcomed Lincoln College on Oct. 8 and walked away with an 8-0 win, the team's fourth straight victory. SCC remains undefeated at home this year, posting a 3-0-2 record in front of the home crowd.
The Cougars dominated the game from the start - putting up 27 shots, 14 on goal, and only allowing two shots on goal.
SCC's Lauren Schmickley grabbed three goals, putting her season total at six. Schmickely scored two goals in the first five minutes of the game, and her third came late in the second half.
“You don't get many chances in a season to get a hat trick, so I am obviously happy about that,” Schmickley said.
Region XVI leading scorer, Sydney Gentry scored two goals and made two assists for SCC. Angela Maxvill, SCC sophomore, recorded two shots on goal - both hit the back of the net. SCC's defensive standout, Bre Colombo, grabbed her first goal of year.
SCC's Deja Lundberg picked up two assists, giving her seven for the year, which is good for No. 1 in Region XVI. Kelly Braudis, Sam Lowe and Kayla Collie each contributed with assists for SCC.
“Things are really starting to click in the attack for us,” Lundberg said. “We are seeing the runs better and able to play a ball into a spot our forwards can finish. Scoring a goal is always great but being able to contribute with an assist is just as important, and I'm just happy to help our team continue to win.”
Sam Garvilla had an easier day, grabbing three saves and her second straight shutout - her fifth of the year.
“We are really starting to gel and figure out how each person plays, which is great as we head into postseason play in two weeks,” said Josh Tyler, SCC Women's Soccer head coach. “We have a very tough week, so the girls will need to step it up a few notches to continue our winning streak. Both teams we are playing have the capability of taking over a game if we are not careful.”
SCC travels to Southwestern Illinois College on Tuesday, Oct. 11, and then welcomes 19th ranked Indian Hills on Thursday, Oct. 13.
