Candidates were referred to the Cinderella Project by local high school counselors and foster care case managers.

“The Cinderella Project was part of the service learning experience at SCC for students in Sociology of the Family,” said Vicky Herbel, professor of sociology. “Students had the opportunity to provide a service to our community and also made connections to course content as it related to the needs of families in society.”

“The event was more successful than I'd ever dreamed - for the girls and volunteers,” said Shelley Thomas-Benke, director of FosterServe Volunteers. “The experience left many of us teary eyed - it was incredibly touching to witness these apprehensive girls transform and light up the room as they came out to model their dresses.”

130 dresses were collected, beating the project's goal of 100 dresses.
