Once again featured at the annual run event will be the popular 10K Race (6.2 miles), 5K Race (3.1 miles) and 1-Mile Fun Run. The start/finish line, which is in the front of the SCC Student Center in the Green Parking Lot, allows the 5K and 10K races to have the same start.  Runners in both races will run together for the first mile and a half on the campus roads before 10K participants leave the campus to run through the streets of Cottleville.

To add an educational edge to the event, one runner will win a $1,000 scholarship to SCC.  Entrants in the 5K and 10K races (ages 18 and older) will be automatically entered into a drawing for the scholarship.  “The new theme was a no-brainer for the committee because the college was founded in 1986,” said Heather McDorman, vice president for marketing and communications and co-chair of the event. “These are still competitive, timed races, but the new ‘80s theme will encourage runners to bring out their friends to have a laugh while they get in a nice run in a beautiful setting.”

Participants are encouraged to dress in ‘80s clothes or as their favorite ‘80s pop icon.  Precision Health Group will play rock and pop favorites from the era and other ‘80s fun includes a themed photo booth, custom throwback winners' medals, neon headbands, custom chip-timed bibs, neon dry-tec T-shirts in three color choices (for registrations received by April 11) and special surprise awards.  “This will undoubtedly be one of the most colorful and crazy events we've had on campus,” McDorman said.

The 10K and 5K races begin at 7:30 a.m., and the 1-Mile Fun Run starts at 9:15 a.m. near the entrances to the Red and Green parking lots on campus. Each event will feature age group awards. All individual fun run finishers will receive ribbons.

The entry fee for the 1-Mile Fun Run is $15; late registration after April 11 is $20, including race-day registration.  Entry for the 10K and 5K races is $25; late registration after April 11 is $30, including race-day registration.  The entry fee includes a neon-colored dry-tec T-shirt, refreshments and tickets into prize basket drawings.  Participants may register online, by mail or in person for one of the run events. Online registration is available through the event website, www.stchas.edu/run.  The overall male and female winner of the 5K will each take home a $50 cash prize and overall male and female winners in the 10K will receive a $100 prize.

There will be free refreshments courtesy of local food stores and restaurants. Precision Health Group will provide the music from the ‘80s at the start/finish line and Missouri American Water Company will provide water stations for the runners. Tucanos Brazilian Grill will give away flavored lemonade to the finishers.

The Health and Wellness Expo is free and open to the public from 7:30-10:30 a.m. in the Student Center, including entry to more than 40 exhibits with health and wellness information, screenings, product samples and refreshments. Participants will have a chance to test their fitness, learn how to take care of mind and body, receive health and safety tips and get in shape. There will also be drawings for several prize baskets. All race participants will receive two free tickets to enter in the prize basket drawings, and additional tickets will be available for purchase at the cost of $1 for two tickets.
