Welding instructors Jon Bridegan (pictured) and Pat Cody were recognized by the American Welding Society with awards of excellence on Dec. 1.
Pat Cody received the District Meritorious Award. This distinction is given to recognize AWS members who have performed some definite or outstanding service to a section, a district or to the society. From these exemplary activities, the member has made outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the art and science of welding.
Jon Bridegan was awarded the Section Educator Award. This honor is given as a means of recognizing educators whose teaching activities are considered to have advanced the knowledge of welding of the undergraduate or postgraduate students in their respective engineering institutions.
SCC recently added welding classes to their credit course offerings to meet the demand from local employers seeking skilled workers. Instructors for SCC's welding program teach welding skills to AWS standards, offering students the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized credential, a valuable tool when seeking employment.
Both Cody and Bridegan joined SCC's General Technology - Welding program in late 2014 as part of the MoSTEMWINs Grant Program. To date, this program has produced over 100 AWS Certified Welders, many who are currently employed in St. Charles County.
