Myers flew to New York for a pre-college program and ended up going home early because it wasn't the right fit. She enrolled in a state college, but after just one semester, Myers could tell she was at the wrong school yet again.
“After a year of confusion, I decided to enroll at SCC,” Myers said. “It turned out to have the best balance of coursework, community engagement and support.”
Whether you want to start your college education, switch gears like Myers or improve your career opportunities, St. Charles Community College provides a chance for a fresh start. Registration for spring 2016 credit classes at SCC is underway. Regular registration hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday.
“Enrolling in classes is the first step to getting the education or degree students need,” said Chris Breitmeyer, vice president for academic and student affairs. “SCC prepares students for careers that are in demand, or to transfer to a four-year institution.”
In addition to quality academic programs, SCC provides support and resources to encourage student success that include financial assistance, scholarship options, a free on-campus tutoring center, veterans' resources, accessibility services, career guidance, a child development center and a number of clubs, activities, sports and events.
“Through my involvement at SCC, I've been able to travel, make new connections and figure out my passions,” Myers said. “I have transformed into a woman with much more confidence and a positive attitude.”
Many students enroll in general education courses that transfer to a four-year institution, but career degrees and certificates that require only 12-32 credit hours to complete are also available for those wanting a boost in or quick entry into the workforce. Such degrees and certificates are in the areas of art, business administration, business technology, computer science, computer-aided drafting, criminal justice, education, global culture, human services and health care.
To register for the spring semester, visit stchas.edu/DiscoverSCC or call 636-922-8000. Academic advising is available by appointment (stchas.edu/appointment). The college is located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville.
Approximately one-third the cost of other area universities, SCC's classes are $98 per credit hour for St. Charles County residents. Tuition is $147 per credit hour for out-of-district, in-state students and $215 per credit hour for out-of-state and international students.
Spring classes begin Jan. 19. (Holiday and other closures, as well as important dates and deadlines are listed on the SCC website under Admissions and then Dates and Deadlines.)
