The public is encouraged to attend and show support for their favorite idol. General admission is $5, while children 5 and under and SCC students with a college ID receive free admission. Tickets will be on sale at the door the night of the event (cash only).

Judges include representatives from SCC's faculty and staff and the local community. A fan favorite will also be chosen that night via a text-in voting system.

In addition to becoming the 2014 SCC Idol, the first place winner will receive a $500 tuition grant from the SCC Foundation.

“This is a fun event that gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of friends, family and the community,” said Mandi Smith, SCC student activities coordinator. “The event grows in popularity each year, and we look forward to this year's showing.”

The event, which debuted in 2008, raises funds for multicultural and diversity programming at the college. Multicultural programs are offered to broaden students' perspectives and enhance their education in a global society. The programs also observe and support nationally recognized heritage months like Native American Heritage Month in November and Black History Month in February.
