The Board approved the profile at its regular meeting held Jan. 24. The college is preparing for the search of its third president after President John McGuire announced last fall his plans to retire in September 2011.

“The presidential profile is a key tool that assists the search committee in identifying the skills, education, experience, and other qualities required of the new president,” Pundmann said. The search committee worked with the Association of Community College Trustees to develop the profile. A final draft was submitted to the Board after conducting public forums in December that were open to students, faculty, staff, and community members and soliciting input from the Presidential Search Committee and Board of Trustee members.

“The development of the profile also enabled the Board of Trustees, college leaders, and the community to take a fresh look at where we have been and where we are going as an educational institution serving an ever-changing community and student base,” Pundmann said.

Pundmann said he is impressed with the completed profile and the attention and thought provided by its contributors. “It is a comprehensive, realistic snapshot of our needs and the qualifications necessary in the next successful president,” he said. “The Board of Trustees is seeking to hire the candidate who can best lead SCC in the continued achievement of its mission and will be selected on his or her ability to address the challenges and opportunities, characteristics, and qualifications identified in the profile.”

The profile is available for review on a Web page dedicated to the presidential search on the SCC website, www.stchas.edu/presidentialsearch. “It is our intent for the process to be as transparent as possible and I look forward to a successful conclusion to the search and to naming the next SCC president in May 2011.”

Advertising for the position will begin the first week of February and resumes will be accepted through March 18, 2011, Pundmann said.
