By studying in a Music program at SCC, you’ll broaden both your skills and your understanding
of all the opportunities available to you in the music industry. Most musicians go
on to establish rewarding careers with religious organizations, performing arts companies,
promoters of performing arts, sports, and similar events, in sound recording industries,
as well as other schools and instructional settings.
The facilities at Shook Theatre (4-ST) include a 400-seat performance hall, two large
rehearsal rooms, eight practice rooms with acoustic pianos, and a state-of-the-art
keyboard/guitar lab with 16 Clavinova workstations. You’ll also be able to join our
ensemble programs, from Jazz Band to Chamber Choir, pursuing the types of performance
you enjoy most.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for actors are expected to grow
by 3%, with about 9,300 job openings each year. In music, Music directors and composers
are expected to have approximately 5,100 openings every year, and 22,600 jobs are
projected year for musicians and singers.
Students will:
- Develop advanced abilities in student’s primary instrument.
- Be able to apply principles of music theory to individual practice.
- Have proficiency in ear training as well as sight-reading and singing.
- Have proficiency in piano, as defined by the NASM (National Association of School
of Music).
- Have solid understanding of music history.
