SCC to Celebrate Women's History Month

St. Charles Community College will host a series of events in honor of Women’s History Month. The events include slam poetry, films, panels, lectures and more. All events are free and open to the public. 

SCC Speaks Freely: “Consent: Get it to Get Some”

SCC Speaks Freely will discuss “Consent: Get it to Get Some” at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 6, in SSB 1102. The forum will be moderated by Vicky Herbel and Sylvia Edgar. Complimentary snacks will be provided. 

Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines film and discussion

Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines will be screened at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the SSB auditorium. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Vicky Herbel, sociology professor. 

Slam Poet

Slam poet Olivia Gatwood will perform at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, in the SSB auditorium.  

Panel: Women in Science & Film: Hidden Figures

A panel discussing Women in Science will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8, in the SSB auditorium. The panel will be followed by a free showing of the film Hidden Figures

Lecture: Women, reproduction and the law in the U.S. history   

Kate Weber, a history professor, will lecture on Women, reproduction and the law in the U.S. history at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, in the SSB auditorium. 

!Women Art Revolution film and discussion

!Women Art Revolution will be screened at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23, in the SSB auditorium. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Bryonie Carter, English professor.   

Between the Covers Book Club

Between the Covers Book Club will discuss Calvin by Martine Leavitt at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, in the LRC commons.  

Keynote Speaker: The Impact of Physical and Sexual Violence: A Personal Journey Revealed

Women’s History Month’s Keynote speaker, Olga Trujillo, attorney, speaker, author and survivor, will speak on “The Impact of Physical and Sexual Violence: A Personal Journey Revealed,” at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 30, in the SSB auditorium. 

Two Women’s History Month displays will be available for viewing throughout the month of March in the SSB. The displays are titled “That’s What She Said” and “Women in Protest Throughout History.”
