SCC Center Stage Theatre to Hold Open Auditions For "Bus Stop" Aug. 22-23

Published: 08/08/2011

Director Deborah Phillips will hold vocal and acting auditions at 7 p.m. Monday-Tuesday, Aug. 22-23, with callbacks at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building theater on the SCC campus in Cottleville. Center Stage Theatre invites SCC students and community residents to audition. Parts are available for five men and three women, including two singers. A script is on reserve in the SCC library. Monologues are encouraged but not required.

The naive, but headstrong rodeo cowboy, Bo, falls in love with Cherie, a “fifth rate” nightclub singer. Determined that Cherie is the girl of his dreams, Bo kidnaps her with the intention of taking her back to his ranch in Montana, getting married and living happily ever after. When the bus stops at Grace’s Diner, the passengers learn the road is blocked and they have to wait out the bad weather together. This 1955 romantic comedy was nominated for four Tony Awards and was adapted for film in 1956, starring Marilyn Monroe.

“Bus Stop” will be performed in the theater of the Fine Arts Building Wednesday-Sunday, Oct. 5-9.
