Center Stage Theatre to Present "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead" April 13-17 at SCC

Published: 04/05/2011

The show will be performed at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 13-16, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17. There will be a high school matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 14.

“Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” is an unauthorized parody of several characters from a popular comic strip who have become teenagers. Drug use, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, and sexual identity are among the issues that are covered in this play. Although it is a comedy, due to the strong language and content, this play is not intended for children. It is for mature, high school audiences and above.

The play opens with CB lamenting to his pen pal about the death of his dog. CB begins to question life after death or even the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burned out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone Goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group’s bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push tolerance from his other friends to the very limits.

The play was written by Bert V. Royal and will be directed by Lonna Wilke.

Cast members include: Chris Parker as CB, Jessica Ellis as CB’s sister, Michael Schumacher as Van, Sean Merkle as Matt, Nicholas Miller as Beethoven, Gabrielle Keller as Marcy, Erin Dorsey as Tricia and Christine Hutchins as Van’s sister.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and college students with ID. Tickets will be offered at a special reduced price of $4 for everyone on Wednesday, April 13.
