St. Charles Community College Enrollment Exceeds 8,000 for First Time

Published: 10/18/2010

The steady increase in enrollment is reflective of the ongoing growth of St. Charles County.

“Over the last 10 years, the college has grown at more than twice the rate of the St. Charles County population,” said John McGuire, SCC president. “Choosing to begin your education at a community college is a smart choice, and many students are taking advantage of the quality educational opportunities available right here in St. Charles.”

SCC also saw an increase in its adult, nontraditional students over the age of 22, with a 5.9 percent increase over last fall. College officials believe the economic conditions have brought many adult students or “returning learners” back to school.

Approximately one in four St. Charles County high school graduates chooses to attend SCC each fall. SCC serves nearly all of St. Charles County, including the Francis Howell, St. Charles, Wentzville, Fort Zumwalt and Orchard Farm school districts, as well as the extended service area of Callaway, Lincoln, Montgomery and Pike counties.

St. Charles Community College is a public, comprehensive two-year community college with associate degrees and certificate programs in the arts, business, sciences and career-technical fields. SCC provides workforce training and community-based personal and professional development as well as cultural, recreational and entertainment opportunities.
