SCC Men's Soccer Team Earns Sportsmanship Award in Inaugural Season

Published: 12/03/2009

The SCC Cougars were selected by conference coaches for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout the entire 2009-10 season.

“This award is a credit to the players and how they conduct themselves on the field,” Head Coach Thomas Kearns said.  “As a coach, I try to reinforce to the student athletes that it is a privilege to represent your school and play college athletics. It is great that their actions and efforts were recognized by the other coaches in the conference.”

The team, led by team captains Brad Jacobsen and Michael Turner, finished the inaugural season with a 7-10-2 record. Jacobsen was selected for First Team All-Region.  Turner and freshman Ryan Brockmann started all 19 games, and goalkeeper Ryan Barry recorded 7 shutouts.

Freshman Scott Hunter was the season’s leading scorer, with 7 goals and 5 assists.  Hunter was named to Second Team All-Conference and Second Team All-Region.

Previously a club sport, this was the first season for competitive, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) sanctioned men’s and women’s soccer at SCC.

Other NJCAA sports at St. Charles Community College include women’s soccer, women’s softball, and men’s baseball. For additional information, call the SCC Athletics Department at 636-922-8212.
