New Degrees and Certificates Coming to SCC in Fall 2023

St. Charles Community College is pleased to announce new associate degrees and certificates starting in the Fall 2023 semester.

Mechatronics Engineering Technology – The Mechatronics Engineering Technology (MET) Associate of Applied Science degree program will prepare students for evolving technologies in the advanced manufacturing/automation systems, precision agriculture, industrial maintenance, and logistics sectors.

Interdisciplinary Technologies – The Interdisciplinary Technology Associate of Applied Science degree program will allow students to mix and match different certificates in Facilities Maintenance, Electrical Electronics, Robotics Automation, Cyber Security Crossover, Data Analytics, HVAC-R, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, CAD – General, Mechanical Design and Drafting, and Basic Welding.

LPN to RN Bridge Program – Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) interested in becoming Registered Nurses (RNs) may now do so with SCC’s updated LPN-to-ADN Bridge Program. The new curriculum is a one-year program that will award 25 credits for prior learning from the student’s LPN education towards the Associate Degree in Nursing.  The updated program is designed with the education and experience of the working LPN in mind. At the completion of the program the LPN-to-ADN graduate is prepared to be successful on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).    

Plumbing & Pipefitters – The Plumbing & Pipefitters Training Certificate program is designed to provide students with the needed knowledge and skillset to meet the minimum requirements to apply for a plumbing apprenticeship. The skills that the student will learn will include blueprint reading, HVAC systems, welding, plumbing systems, and plumbing code in addition to general education requirements.

Hydraulics and Pneumatics – The Hydraulics and Pneumatics Certificate of Specialization combines understanding and hands-on lab experience needed for nearly any industry. Hydraulics and pneumatics technology is the use of liquid or gas to transmit power. With hydraulics, the fluid is a liquid, most often oil, and pneumatics uses gas, most often compressed air. Hydraulics and pneumatics are used in various industries, including, manufacturing, industry, agriculture, power generation, and more.

Electrical/Electronics – The Electrical/Electronic Systems Certificate of Specialization program helps students learn skills for jobs doing installation, repairs, maintaining and servicing electrical and electronics equipment. Electrical/Electronic careers are found in various fields including electrical, medical, industrial, commercial, programmable logic controllers, automotive, communications, renewable energy, and more. 

Facilities Maintenance Systems – The Facilities Maintenance Systems Certificate of Specialization prepares students to be Facilities Maintenance Technicians. Technicians maintain and repair commercial or industrial building systems in a plants or factories. This will include systems that keep the building running at peak efficiency, including boilers, chillers, water treatment, fire protection, HVAC systems, and more.

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) – The Certificate of Specialization in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration program provides students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to find an entry-level position as an HVAC-R technician. In classrooms and labs, students will learn how to size HVAC systems, set controls, clean and maintain HVAC/R systems and parts, demonstrate safety practices, and use computer technology to enhance potential for employment.

 Robotics & Automation Systems – The Robotics and Automation Certificate program will provide students the knowledge and skills to work with robots commonly used in manufacturing and production environments. Students will learn mechanical and electrical components, programming and troubleshooting, and the integration of robots in work cells and assembly lines to name a few.

We are building relationships and working with business and industry partners to develop relevant workforce training programs. Every program offered is designed to elevate earning potential and prepare students for in-demand careers.” 

The new degrees and certificates join over 100 pathways, degrees and certificates at SCC.
