“The players were determined and played well in the final, but just came up short,” said Thomas Kearns, men's soccer head coach. “They made an excellent effort and never gave up during any point in the season - I'm proud of each and every member of the 2010 team.”

Several players from this year's squad received awards from Region XVI of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Midwest Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC).

The sophomore defense cleaned up with six honors, including sophomore defensemen Brad Jacobsen, of St. Peters, Mo., and Matt Wilcox of Florissant, Mo., who both earned First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-MCCAC honors. Sophomore defenseman Ben Spaunhorst, of Defiance, Mo., was named to the Second-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-MCCAC. Sophomore midfielder Alex Pajda, of St. Peters, Mo., also received Second-Team All-MCCAC honors.

“The sophomores on this team embodied everything you would want in a student athlete,” said Kearns. “SCC should be proud of the way this class of athletes has represented the college over the past two years.”

The team's freshmen also received several awards, including forward Jared Ray, of Troy, Mo., who received Second-Team All-Region honors, and goalkeeper Austin Haywood, of St. Charles, Mo., and midfielder Robbie Bajier, of O'Fallon, Mo., who were both named to the Second-Team All-MCCAC.
