Of the 110 new members, 54 students attended the ceremony with family and friends. Also at the ceremony, the new members honored 15 SCC staff and faculty members as Phi Theta Kappa mentors and recipients of the Spring 2010 Glaux Award. The mentors were recognized for contributing to the new Phi Theta Kappa members' educational goals and for serving as mentors and guides in their pursuit of academic excellence. 

Approximately 200 people attended the ceremony total. SCC President John McGuire gave opening remarks, and Jerry Byers, Missouri Regional President of Phi Theta Kappa, was the guest speaker.

The Alpha Xi Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa was recognized as a five-star chapter in Missouri at the regional convention in Independence, Mo., Feb. 26-28. In addition, the chapter president Danny Patterson of O'Fallon, Mo., was selected for the All-Missouri Academic First Team and was named a Gold Coca-Cola Scholar. Patterson was honored along with his fellow Missouri Community College award recipients at a luncheon in Jefferson City, Mo., in March. Ashley Latta of Wright City, Mo., was selected for the All-Missouri Academic Third Team.

The SCC chapter of Phi Theta Kappa also recently attended the international convention in Orlando, Fla., April 8-11. The members of Phi Theta Kappa held a number of successful fundraising events in the past year and participated in several community service events, including assisting St. Charles County and Greenway Network with “Mission: Clean Stream.”
