Young People’s Theatre to hold open auditions for 'Disney’s Beauty and the Beast'

Young People’s Theatre will hold open auditions for “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building theater on the St. Charles Community College campus. The campus is located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Drive in Cottleville. Callbacks – by invitation only – will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5

Performances will be at 7 p.m. March 20-21 and 27-28, and at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22 and 28-29. Tickets will be $10 and can be purchased at stchastickets.com or by calling 636-922-8050.

Auditions are available for ages 8 to 19 and will consist of cold readings, a song and a short dance combination that will be taught. Wear comfortable clothing and bring jazz/ballet/character shoes for the dance audition. If selected, production cost is $240.

“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” is the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, a young, handsome prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end, and he will be transformed into his former self. 

This play is based on the book by Linda Woolverton, featuring music by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” was originally produced by Robert Jess Roth and directed by Disney Theatrical Productions. “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI (www.MTIShows.com).

Young People’s Theatre’s production will have orchestrations by Danny Troob, vocal arrangements by David Friendman, incedental music by Michael Kosarin and dance arrangements by Glen Kelly.
