Cougars Earn
Sportsmanship Award
July 30, 2007
–Despite a rocky 1-7 start, the St. Charles Community
College’s men’s baseball team rallied to a strong finish
with a 13-12 run. While the overall play of the Cougars was inconsistent,
their level of sportsmanship remained constant.
As a result of their respectful play, the 2006-07 Cougars won the Midwest Community
College Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Award. Each year, the MCCA Conference
coaches give the Sportsmanship Award to the team that best adheres to ethical
behavior and fair play rules.
Cougars Head Coach Chris Gober credits his team for winning the award, saying
that the team was well-behaved and that they didn’t overreact to minor
calls.
“We’ve never really argued balls and strikes,” Gober said. “In
fact, in my nine years of coaching I’ve never been thrown out of a game.
We just go out and play hard.” more

for
Region XVI Tournament
May 10, 2007 – The St. Charles
Community College baseball team will begin play in the Region XVI
Tournament at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, when it faces Mineral
Area at Maple Woods’ campus in Kansas City, Mo.
The Cougars earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, which is based
on their performance against other teams in the region this season. SCC
head coach Chris Gober said this year’s tournament championship
could be taken by any of the seven teams competing.
“The tournament is wide open and we have as good a shot as anyone to
win it,” Gober said. “This year there is more parity in the
regional tournament than any of the nine years I have been here. It will
come down to whoever is playing the best baseball right now.”
Freshman Trevor Zugmaier will start the game against Mineral Area. Zugmaier
posted a 4-2 regular season record for SCC and led the team with
a 2.57 ERA. The Cougars were 3-1 against Mineral Area this
