Students Transferring to SCC Checklist

Students transferring from other colleges or universities are eligible for admission to SCC with advance standing. Courses in which 'F' grades have been earned will not be granted transfer credit.

This checklist was developed to help you through the enrollment process. You will find different processes to complete in Admissions, Financial Assistance, Assessment, Academic Counseling, and with the Cashier. Click on each step to view the instructions for completing that step. If you follow all of the suggestions outlined, you should have a smooth start at SCC!

1. Complete an Application for Admission.

  • Take your completed application to the Assessment Center when you go to take the Academic Skills Assessment (see step 3.) If you are not taking the test, applications can be submitted in person or mailed to the Admissions Office.
  • Applications may be found online in Acrobat Reader (PDF) format, or may be picked up at the Information Desk in the Administration Building.

2. Read instructions for students transferring to SCC.

3. Apply early for financial assistance.

  • If receiving the A+ Scholarship, contact Financial Assistance and inform your academic counselor.

4. Take the Academic Skills Assessment.

  • If you have not completed college-level math or English or plan to take courses that require English or math as a prerequisite, you must take the assessment.
  • If you have completed English and/or math at another college, the full assessment may not be needed; however, proof of prerequisite (report card or transcript) will be required.

5. Complete the Course Registration Form and bring to the     Registration Office.

Check the college catalog to ensure the required prerequisites or corequisites for the course have been met. All course prerequisites must be met prior to registration.

If you had prerequisite courses at a college other than SCC, you will need to have the transcript or grade card in your admissions file or with you when you register to show proof that you have met that prerequisite (proof of prerequisite).

Check the credit course schedule for course availability.

Meeting with an advisor is not required since you've had previous college credit. However, if you would like help with selecting courses, understanding your assessment scores, and with the registration process, visit the Academic Counseling Web site for hours and contact information for scheduling an appointment.

If you are an A+ scholarship student you must see an advisor to register.

6. Pay tuition and fees in full.

7. Obtain picture ID and parking tags.

8. Buy textbooks.

9. Complete the online orientation for new students.

10. Sign up for SCC Connection.
  • Access your final grades, personal SCC records, and register for upcoming semesters. You must complete one full semester before you can register online.
