Students Not Seeking a Degree
Or Taking Less Than Five Credits Checklist

SCC offers many programs to help you accomplish your personal and professional goals. If you just want to take a few courses (5 credit hours or less) for professional or personal interest but do not want to earn a degree or certificate, SCC can help.

1. Complete an Application for Admission.

  • Take your completed application to the Assessment Center when you go to take the Academic Skills Assessment (see step 3.) If you are not taking the test, applications can be submitted in person or mailed to the Admissions Office.
  • Applications may be found online in Acrobat Reader (PDF) format, or may be picked up at the Information Desk in the Administration Building.

  • If you have not completed college-level math or English or plan to take courses that require English or math as a prerequisite, you must take the assessment.

Students who later decide to enter a certificate or degree-granting program are required to complete the Academic Skills Assessment.

  • Check the college catalog to ensure the required prerequisites or corequisites for the course have been met. All course prerequisites must be met prior to registration.
