First-Time College Student Enrollment Checklist

SCC is a SMART place to start your college education! Students may apply for admission anytime during the year. Admission to the college does not guarantee entrance into a particular course or program of study.

This checklist was developed to help you through the enrollment process. Click on each step to view the instructions for completing that step.

1.Complete an Application for Admission.
  • Take your completed application to the Assessment Center when you go to take the Academic Skills Assessment (see step 3.) If you are not taking the test, applications can be submitted in person or mailed to the Admissions Office.
  • Applications may be found online in Acrobat Reader (PDF) format, or may be picked up at the Information Desk in the Administration Building.
2. Apply early for financial assistance and scholarships.
  • If receiving the A+ Scholarship, contact the Financial Assistance Office and inform your academic counselor.

You must see an academic counselor each time to register.
3. Take the Academic Skills Assessment.
4. Meet with an academic counselor and register for classes.
  • Your test results will be reviewed with you by an academic counselor and the counselor will help you select the courses you need to get started.
  • Prior to meeting with a counselor, review the academic calendar for registration dates, and preview the college catalog and the credit class schedule to determine the best possible schedule.
  • COL 101– Orientation to College is required for all first-time freshmen who take 9 or more credit hours in fall or spring or 5 or more credit hours in the summer term. Students who withdraw from COL 101 will have a “hold” put on their registration for the following semester.
  • To register in the fall (May and June), contact the Student Development Office to register for a Smart Start Registration and Orientation session.
  • For hours and more information, visit the academic counseling Web page.
5. Pay tuition and fees in full.
6. Obtain your picture ID and parking tag.
7. Buy your textbooks.
8. Complete the online orientation for new students.
9. Sign up for SCC Connection.
  • Access your final grades, personal SCC records, and register for upcoming semesters. You must complete one full semester before you can register online.
