SCC Foundation plans to award $15,000 in faculty and staff mini-grants this year.  If you need funding for a project, program or equipment that directly impacts student success and/or retention, submit a proposal by Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012. See the Mini-Grant Overview and Application Form in the Foundation section of the SCC Intranet Forms page or contact Betsy Schneider at x8473. Awards will be made by Dec. 11, 2012.

Check out the 2012 Mid Rivers Review, the literary journal published annually by the SCC English Department. The journal contains poetry, prose and artwork contributed by students, staff, faculty and area residents. Mid Rivers Review can be purchased at the SCC Bookstore or by calling x8407.

SCC is an approved charity in the Schnucks Escrip program, which means if you show an Escrip card at checkout, Schnucks will donate a portion of your sale to the SCC Foundation. Signing up for a card is free and doesn’t cost anything to use. To receive and activate an Escrip card, email Tara Cochran. If you already have one, just remember to have Schnucks swipe it while purchasing groceries.

The Transform Art Exhibition will be on display until Nov. 2 in the FAB gallery. Gallery hours are
8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, contact Christine Holtz.

SCC Music Department will present free music performances:

  • Student music recitals at noon Wednesday, Oct. 24, in FAB 118.
  • Faculty recital featuring Kirk Hanser (classical guitar) at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the FAB Theater.

Kelly Schneider, JSW, LCSW, with Bridgeway Behavioral Health, will give a seminar entitled "Healthy Choices, Fun Sex" at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building. Schneider will talk to students about preventing sexual assault and date rape, and how healthy beliefs and attitudes about sex can prevent sexual violence.

SCC Young People's Theatre will host its first Theater Fun Run at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, on the SCC Campus. The 5K walk/run will feature musical performances by the Young People's Theatre. Race entry fee is $25 and participants can register online through Nov. 1.

SCC will celebrate Veterans Week Nov. 6-12 in the auditorium of the Social Sciences Building. Scheduled events include:

  • The Americans at Normandy: The Story of D-Day, noon Nov. 5.
  • SCC Student Veterans Panel, 11:30 a.m. Nov. 6.
  • Healing America's Veterans: A Dog, a Project and a Guitar (featuring SCC student Angela Peacock), 7 p.m. Nov. 7
  • Coming Home and Finding Work: The Employment Struggle for Veterans, 11:30 a.m. Nov. 8
  • Army Vehicles on display, 10 a.m. Nov. 9, on the Campus Plaza
  • Veterans Day Celebration, 11 a.m. Nov. 12, in the gymnasium of the College Center.

The long-range planning (LRP) steering committee members are hosting and facilitating a series of "Town Hall Meetings," or open forums, to gain employee feedback, comments and suggestions to the drafted mission statement, vision statement and institutional goals. Everyone is encouraged to attend and attendance does qualify for STEP credit. Space is limited to 30 participants per meeting; call for availability. Academic Advising will start taking student appointments Monday, Nov. 5. To schedule an appointment with a counselor, call 636-922-8241 or stop by the Academic Advising office, located in Room 1204 of the Administration Building. Office hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday.

The following college representatives will be visiting SCC to discuss transfer requirements (all representatives will have tables set up in the Atrium of the Administration Building):

The last day to drop 12/FA classes and receive a "W" is Friday, Oct. 26.

Last day to change from credit/audit for 12/FA2 is Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Last Day to Receive a W for 12/FA3 Classes is Monday, Nov. 5.

SCC Enrollment Services will hold a Returning Learners Workshop from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 5-7, in the Private Dining Room of the Student Center. The free workshop helps students who have been out of school for a number of years ease back into the classroom situation. Contact Cassie Akins at 636-922-8248 to sign up.
