The annual staff in-service day will be Thursday, June 7, in rooms 205-206 of the Student Center. There will be two shifts, one in the morning from 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., and another in the afternoon, from 12:15-4:15 p.m. A healthy grab-n-go lunch will be provided. RSVPs are not required. The two sessions are:

  • "Understanding Diversity and Differences" by Clarence "Tuck" Reed: This seminar will focus on the understanding of diversity and differences starting with how to view oneself as a way to improve the understanding of others.
  • "Email Management" by Greg Wirth, SCC director of network computing: Participants will learn how to retain important messages, delete unnecessary messages, and show several different strategies for better organizing emails.

The Café will be closed until August. Summer hours for the Plaza Bistro will be 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The SCC Bookstore will maintain its regular business hours through Saturday, June 9. Regular hours are:

  • 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday
  • 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday
  • 8 a.m.-noon Saturday
  • Closed Sundays

Bookstore summer hours will begin Monday, June 11. Summer hours are: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; closed Saturday-Sunday. Regular store hours will resume Monday, July 23.

In 2011, the SCC Foundation received an additional $1,019.87 to award in scholarships and grants, thanks to the Schnucks Escrip program. SCC Student Activities and Friends & Alumni are hosting an outdoor summer movie series June-August at SCC. The first movie, "The Lorax," will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, on the lawn outside the Technology Building, near the orange parking lot. All of the movie nights are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and food. Free popcorn will be provided and snacks and beverages will also be available for purchase. The SCC Living Green Expo will be from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at SCC. Free electronic recycling will be provided onsite by EPC, with the exception of televisions and monitors for a $10 fee. Guests will have the opportunity to view a 2012 Chevy Volt, and other hybrid vehicles without having to visit multiple dealerships. Family-friendly exhibits such as a community recycled art project, face painting, Segway rides and EVie from the St. Louis Science Center will be on display. The event is free and open to the public. Kicking off the Living Green Expo will be a 25th Anniversary Tree Planting Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, in the Campus Plaza. The ceremony will be about 30 minutes and will mark the moment, celebrating the accomplishments of the college and providing a glimpse into its plans for a successful future. The event is free and open to the public. 

Faculty and staff members are invited to the Silver Social, a closing celebration of SCC's 25th anniversary year, from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday, June 22, in the SSB auditorium. There will be a light dinner, hors d’oeuvres and mocktails, plus music, games and prizes. All faculty and staff are welcome, but will need to get tickets and RSVP online by Wednesday, June 13.
