Every faculty and staff member should have received a maroon rubber bracelet in their "goody bags" on All College Day that says "Engage. Excel. Lead." These bands were created by the HLC/NCA Communications Subcommittee to remind everyone of SCC's mission, vision and values. Everyone is encouraged to wear these bands on Monday, Nov. 7, during the HLC/NCA team visit at SCC. If you do, there might a prize in store for you. Members of the HLC/NCA evaluation team will be on the SCC campus Nov. 7-9. Please review the Self-Study report in order to prepare for the visit. Phi Theta Kappa’s Alpha Xi Chi Chapter will be collecting treats, dry and canned food, grooming supplies and other items for cats and dogs in need at the local St. Charles County Division of Humane Services. Donations can be dropped off in designated collection boxes found in ADM, SSB and the College Center from now until Dec. 9. Email scc.axc.ptk@gmail.com for more information. SCC Student Activities will host the third annual Scary Movie Marathon Monday-Friday, In honor of the college's year-long 25th anniversary celebration, SCC will celebrate the "25th of the Month" on Tuesday, Oct. 25. All are invited to wear jeans and their college gear, maroon and gray spirit colors or 25th anniversary T–shirt. Employees also are invited to wear their 25th anniversary pins. If you didn't receive a free 25th anniversary pin, you can pick one up at the Welcome Center in the Administration Building. Also on Tuesday, Scooter McCougar will be passing out Halloween candy on campus around lunch time. For more information on SCC's 25th anniversary, visit www.stchas.edu/25th. SCC's Young People's Theatre will hold open auditions for the production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, in the FAB theater. Children ages 8-18 are welcome to audition. Kyshona Armstrong, acoustic folk soul singer-songwriter, will host a free performance at noon Monday, Nov. 7, in the Cáfe-Bookstore. Her music is influenced by a blend of bluegrass, folk, gospel and country music. This concert is part of the Fall 2011 Lunchtime Entertainment Series, hosted by SCC Student Activities. Contact Mandi Smith at x8469 for more information. SCC will celebrate Veterans Day with a series of events planned Nov. 7-13, in the SSB Auditorium. The week will kick off with a Veterans Salute at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, near the flagpole outside the LRC. Other events include an SCC student veteran panel and a lecture on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The week will end with four performances of "United We Stand: A Tribute to the United Service Organizations of World War II,” which is a recreation of the patriotic radio shows of World War II. Showtimes of “United We Stand,” are 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. Tickets are available at www.stchastickets.com or at x8233. They are free for SCC students, faculty and staff with current ID, or $5 for adults, $4 for veterans, senior citizens and students. Spring 2012 registration for current and returning SCC students will begin Monday, Oct. 24. Registration will open up to new students Monday, Oct. 31. The last day to receive an 80 percent refund for FA2 2011 classes is Tuesday, Oct. 25. The last day to drop and receive a "W" for fall 2011 classes is Friday, Oct. 28. The last day to received a 60 percent refund for FA2 2011 classes is Friday, Oct. 28. The last day to change from credit to audit or audit to credit is Tuesday, Nov. 1. The last day to drop and receive a "W" for FA3 2011 classes is Monday, Nov. 7. 121 SCC employees pledged or donated this year to raise $13,324.58 for the United Way, surpassing the goal of $13,000 by 2.5 percent. Stephanie Tolson, SCC dean of the Learning Resource Center, was elected to serve on the Missouri Library Association Board of Directors as a “Member at Large” for one year beginning January 2012. |
