"Healthy Air Promotes Healthy Lives"

SCC Now a
Tobacco-Free Campus

The SCC community thanks you for respecting and observing a new policy that will make for a healthier learning and working environment.

Under the policy, as of Jan. 1, 2007, tobacco use is prohibited both indoors and outdoors, which includes all common areas, building entrances, athletics fields, walking trails, and parking lots.

Everyone Can Benefit From a Tobacco-Free Environment

A tobacco-free environment will provide the following benefits to SCC students and the entire campus community.

  • Supports community efforts to reduce or eliminate tobacco use in public settings.
  • Eliminates second-hand smoke from around building entrances.
  • Eliminates litter from cigarette butts and other debris.
  • May encourage some tobacco users to stop a harmful habit.
  • Prepares SCC students to cope with future employment in tobacco-free environments.
  • Sets a positive example for high school students and young children who are often on campus.
  • Reduces risk of fires caused by cigarette smoking.

Other Tobacco-Free Campuses

Other Missouri community colleges have led the way in creating healthier campus environments by becoming tobacco-free.  Ozarks Technical Community College became tobacco-free in 2003 and State Fair Community College joined the effort in 2005.
