Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness

Welcome to IRE

Welcome to the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness (IRE) at St. Charles Community College.  This Web page provides links to some of the most requested data provided by our office.

History & Purpose of IRE

This office was founded in June 1997.  Dr. James Benedict, vice president for Student Services, served as its first director through December 1997.

Dr. Ron Pennington joined SCC in March 1998 and is IRE's current director.  To analyze the history of the College and predict future trends, Dr. Pennington planned a database system, which he named STACS (Student Tracking/Assessment Computerized System).  The STACS database contains student data since AY95.  It is a relational database which can be joined with other satellite data sets.  In August 1999, Suzanne Wirth joined IRE as assistant director to assist with the implementation of the STACS project.

Effective July 2007, the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness is a department of the Division of Information Resources, Technology, and Planning reporting to Vice-President Barbara Keim. IRE is responsible for a large number of reports and survey analyses.  The office coordinates and submits reports such as IPEDS, DHE, DESE, EMSAS data, and other routine surveys (ACT, HLC, Peterson's, etc.).  It is responsible for state reports, development and analysis of Performance Indicators, The Cougar Count (the college annual fact book), and three census reports annually.
