St.
Charles Community College's A+ Computer Repair and Maintenance program
consists of one class (CPT 107). This class will help to prepare you
for the A+ certification. You'll learn how to repair, build, maintain,
troubleshoot, and configure PCs. Training is comprised of one 5-hour
class per week for one semester. Evening classes meet from 5:30-10 p.m.
one evening per week. The class is worth 5 credit hours. Summer
sessions meet twice as often.
We accept
transfer credits, work experience, or certain industry certifications
in lieu of prerequisite classes - based on a student’s experience or
knowledge.
Open enrollment for the A+ class occurs at the beginning of each
semester (fall, spring, and summer) on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Summer sessions meet more often in a condensed format over an 8-week
period.
This class is highly recommended for anyone wishing to learn more about
computer hardware and maintenance. It is also recommended for students
in any of the networking programs who do not already know how to take a
computer apart and repair it.
You will take computers apart in class, so a computer toolkit with an
anti-static wrist band will be required in addition to a textbook and
lab manual. The class number is CPT 107: A+ (Computer Repair and
Maintenance).
Getting Started is Easy!
If you have never been an SCC student, you must complete an Application for Admissions form and the Class Add/Drop form. Current SCC students may register online.
You may pick and choose specific class sequences as you work towards certifications. However, if you plan to earn a degree, please visit our counseling department early in your training.
If you have further questions, contact Mike Fuszner via e-mail at mfuszner@stchas.edu to set up a time to meet. You'll have a chance to talk about your background, experience, goals, take a brief tour, and prepare to sign-up for classes if the program fits your educational needs.
Some classes fill up quickly. Students register on a first-come, first-served basis. It is suggested that you register as soon as registration opens up each semester. Spring registration usually begins in late October; fall and summer registration usually begin in early April.
Sufficient enrollment is required to run a class. Classes meet once or twice per week. Evening classes usually meet from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Classes are lab-intensive.
Students should plan on five hours per week in class, and several hours outside of class reviewing the curriculum and completing any labs not finished within class. |
