Dear Health Teleweb Course Student: Summer 2008
Welcome to the Teleweb course entitled "The Human Condition" (PHE 103-W). I am Ann Vernon and I will be your "facilitator" for the course. I am here to guide and direct you through the course and to answer your questions about the assigned material. I will keep office hours (to be announced at orientation) when you can reach me in person or by phone. My phone number is 636-922-8642. My office is 2442G located in the Academic/Administration building. "The Human Condition" is an integrated distance education course, including 26 video programs, a textbook, and Web components in the form of quizzes and assignments. This course encourages you to take a proactive approach toward maintaining health. The programs cover a wide range of topics such as: exploring health relationships, parenting, threats to health posed by illness, injuries, and substance abuse. It includes information on health promotion and illness prevention, current health issues, aging and death.
Students taking a teleweb course are required to attend a MANDATORY ORIENTATION. The orientation is worth 50 points. During the mandatory orientation students will receive individual passwords for the Web component of the course. The dates and times for the health teleweb course orientation sessions are as follows:
Orientations:
7 p.m. Friday, May 30 – TECH 103
10 a.m. Saturday, May 31 – TECH 103
Midterms:
7 p.m. Friday, June 27 – TECH 103
10 a.m. Saturday, June 28 – TECH 103
Finals:
7 p.m. Friday, July 25 – TECH 103
10 a.m. Saturday, July 26 – TECH 103
You must attend ONE of the orientations. Please make appropriate arrangements.
Videos/DVD's may be checked out at the library circulation desk either prior to or after the orientation session. You must have your student id to check out materials.
Telephone Orders for Teleweb Course Students
Students may call the Bookstore at 636-922-8448 to place their order. The bookstore will give the teleweb course textbook pricing information at the time of the call. There will be an additional shipping charge of $5.00 per (1) telecourse and $10.00 per (2) or more telecourses. Students may use Visa, Mastercard, or Discover as methods of payments. Students may also make special arrangements to purchase their books with a mailed check. Items will be shipped via UPS.
WebCT/Blackboard courses will not be available to students until 5 working days prior to the start of the semester.
