ECO 120: Principles of Microeconomics

Online Course - Summer 2008

Dear Online Student,

Welcome to the Summer 2008 semester at St. Charles Community College and ECO 120–N1 “Principles of Microeconomics”. This is an introductory course in Microeconomic Theory; the course is designed to give you an overview of Microeconomics along with a working knowledge of basic microeconomic models. You will develop an understanding of supply and demand, why and how prices are determined, how incremental costs impact the level of production, how companies determine the value of factors of production, and develop a working understanding of marginal analysis.

The courses online format is designed to give you a tremendous amount of time and place flexibility while mastering the course material. On line courses do require a great deal of self-discipline on your part, you must complete the required work on a timely schedule without having a formal class schedule. This Course uses WebCT/Blackboard so you are required to have basic computer skills, a computer with Internet access, and you will be required to complete assignments using Microsoft Word. These requirements along with other policies will be covered at an orientation session; this session is not mandatory but is recommended if you have not taken on line courses in the past. If you do not attend the orientation I expect you to sign on and introduce yourself on the discussion board.

Please choose one of the on-campus meeting times to attend.

Monday, June 2 - TECH 202 - Orientation - 6 p.m.
Thursday, June 5 - TECH 101 - Orientation - 7 p.m.

Saturday, June 28 - SSB 1208 - Midterm 12 p.m.
Tuesday, July 1 - SSB 1208 - Midterm 6 p.m.

Thursday, July 24 - SSB 1208 - Final 6 p.m.
Saturday, July 26 - SSB 1208 - Final 12 p.m.

The only times you are requires to attend an on campus session will be for exams, again I stress if you are uncomfortable with on line classes please attend the orientation session. This course will have midterm and final exams. You are required to take both tests on campus. Please note the scheduled dates in the table above. The course syllabus will be posted on line and you will receive a copy at the orientation.
