CRITICAL ISSUES AND GOALS

STRATEGIC ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Student Learning and Success:

Ensure that all programs and services are focused on academic excellence and student success

1.  Enhance student readiness for success in college-level work

2.  Increase percentage of students achieving their educational goals 

3. Identify and fulfill the educational needs of our community  

4. Identify and prioritize funding needs so that monies can be secured to fulfill them.

Student Recruitment and Retention:

Develop and enhance student recruitment and retention

1. Develop enrollment and growth projections for the next 5-year period; continue enrollment management initiatives and implementation of strategies

2. Identify and target potential programs and areas for growth

3. Develop strategies within programs and disciplines to enhance student retention and improve completion and progression rates

4. Develop additional opportunities for student interaction with faculty and staff to increase student engagement and retention

College Personnel:

Provide an environment in which employees are valued, respected, and supported

1. Ensure appropriate staffing levels are met through effective workforce planning

2. Enable College personnel to provide effective, efficient programs and services

3. Support teamwork, sensitivity, and understanding among College departments and service

4. Use employee response data to identify areas of focus for improving job satisfaction

5. Provide professional development and training to increase employee effectiveness and to support student success

Accountability:

Present evidence of institutional performance and responsibility to ourselves and our community

1. Establish institutional performance measures that are actionable and easily understood

2. Integrate planning, budgeting, and institutional assessment processes

3. Demonstrate financial stewardship in each College area and unit

4. Promote the safety of people and security of property on campus

5. Conduct strategic assessment of technology needs, implement projects, and provide campus-wide coordination

6. Implement environmentally-friendly initiatives and promote sustainability

Communication:

Ensure effective internal and external  communication

1. Improve communication within and among departments by providing employees with  accessible, timely, and relevant information and by responding to employee concerns and ideas for improvements

2. Create a shared understanding within the community and the College that recognizes the growing need for private dollars from individuals, corporations, and foundations in support of the SCC mission

3. Expand and strengthen communication to potential and current students and to the community while providing information in a manner that supports the SCC brand
